The New York Times Index can help you find an article published in The New York Times years ago even if you did not have old copies of that newspaper.  If you want to find news articles about a historical event, find the volume of The New York Times Index for the year of the event.  Look up the people, organization, or event involved.  The entry will include the relevant articles’ headlines from that year and the dates, sections, and page numbers where the articles were published.

You can find these articles electronically.  You might be able to look them up on www.nytimes.com, Google, or another search engine by typing in the headlines.  Remember to use quotation marks around the headline to get precise results.  Your search may lead you back to a page on www.nytimes.com.  Many old news articles are free online.

If the article is not available online, you can use your Jersey City Free Public Library card.  (If you do not have one, but you are a student at IHE, it is easy to get one.)  Visit http://www.jclibrary.org/resources/online-resources-home-access and click on Infotrac or EBSCOhost to find newspaper articles.
